Fu-Tian Organic Farm

Fu-Tian has farmed in Citong, Yunlin for three generations. The first generation started with water spinach and cut back on pesticides from the outset; the second converted the whole farm to organic; the third came home to take over and grew it to 11 hectares of open fields and greenhouses, producing more than ten kinds of organic leafy greens.

Organic farming is hard work: biological and physical pest control, constant field walks, insects picked off by hand, and the extra cost of greenhouses to keep pests and erratic weather at bay. Behind ordinary-looking vegetables is a lot of time and care that never shows.

Extreme weather and low market prices have not changed the approach: no undercutting, fair prices, a focus on quality and on the land underfoot. "The green hills ask for nothing; Fu-Tian tends its fields with care." Farming is a commitment to the land, to the family and to the people who eat what we grow.
